Van life guide: Scotland

Van Life in Fife: Best Spots, Meetups & Where to Park

Find other van lifers, join walks and brews, or meet someone who gets the lifestyle in Fife. Fife is a kingdom by the sea, with fishing villages, golf links, ancient burghs and the Lomond Hills all within an hour of Edinburgh.

The van life scene in Fife

The Fife Coastal Path follows more than 100 miles of shoreline between the Forth and the Tay, past the East Neuk villages and the sands at St Andrews. Inland, the Lomond Hills rise above farmland and quiet market towns.

If you are parked up in Fife, it is simple to make friends when you plan a walk with fellow van lifers.

Parking up and staying legal in Fife

Harbour car parks in the East Neuk and St Andrews can be small and busy, with limited space for larger vans. Plan ahead and check overnight rules before you park.

In Scotland, access rights cover lightweight tent camping in small numbers for two or three nights, but they do not include motor vehicles, so staying overnight in a campervan or motorhome is different. Landowners and councils can restrict where you park, and some areas, such as parts of Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park, have camping byelaws. Use campsites, motorhome stopovers or pubs that welcome vans, and follow the Scottish Outdoor Access Code.

Read the Scottish Outdoor Access Code guide to camping. Always leave places as you found them, be considerate to residents, and see our Community Guidelines and Safety Tips.
