Van Life in Ayrshire: Best Spots, Meetups & Where to Park

Meet fellow van lifers, join walks and brews, or meet someone special in Ayrshire. Ayrshire is Burns country, with long beaches, golf links and the islands of the Firth of Clyde on its doorstep.

The van life scene in Ayrshire

The Ayrshire coast runs from Largs to Girvan with views to Arran and Ailsa Craig, and the Galloway Hills rise inland to the south. Culzean Castle sits on dramatic clifftops.

When you are parked up in Ayrshire, it is easy to make friends when you plan a walk with other travellers. The Isle of Arran is a short ferry away.

Parking up and staying legal in Ayrshire

Seafront car parks at Ayr and Largs are busy in summer, with height barriers. Use campsites and check signs. Ferry spaces for Arran need booking.

In Scotland, access rights cover lightweight tent camping in small numbers for two or three nights, but they do not include motor vehicles, so staying overnight in a campervan or motorhome is different. Landowners and councils can restrict where you park, and some areas, such as parts of Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park, have camping byelaws. Use campsites, motorhome stopovers or pubs that welcome vans, and follow the Scottish Outdoor Access Code.

Read the Scottish Outdoor Access Code guide to camping. Always take your litter home, be considerate to residents, and see our Community Guidelines and Safety Tips.
