Built across seven hills, Sheffield has parks, woodlands and rivers running through it, and Peak District moorland begins within the city boundary.

When you are parked up in Sheffield, it is easy to find your crew when you plan a convoy route with fellow van lifers. The Peak District starts at the city’s edge.

Parking up and staying legal in Sheffield

Sheffield’s centre is hilly with restricted streets, and larger vans do best at Park and Ride or a campsite on the outskirts. Check overnight rules before you stay.

In England, wild camping is generally not allowed without the landowner’s permission, and overnight stays on roadsides, in car parks and at beauty spots are often restricted by signs, byelaws or council orders. Dartmoor has its own arrangements, so check the national park’s current guidance. Use campsites, Certificated Locations, farm stopovers or pubs that welcome vans, and follow the Countryside Code.

Read the Countryside Code. Please leave no trace, be considerate to residents, and see our Community Guidelines and Safety Tips.
