Van life guide: England
Van Life in Plymouth: Best Spots, Meetups & Where to Park
Find fellow van lifers, join campouts and convoys, or meet someone who gets the lifestyle in Plymouth. Plymouth is a big maritime city on Plymouth Sound, with a historic Barbican and Dartmoor and Cornwall either side.
The van life scene in Plymouth
Plymouth Sound is Britain’s first National Marine Park, with the Hoe overlooking the water. Dartmoor National Park rises to the north and the Tamar crosses into Cornwall.
When you are based in Plymouth, it is easy to meet people when you plan a convoy route with fellow van lifers. Plymouth is part of our wider Devon guide.

Parking up and staying legal in Plymouth
Plymouth’s Barbican and Hoe car parks are busy in summer, with height limits. Larger vans do best at Park and Ride sites or campsites outside the city, and Dartmoor has its own overnight rules.
In England, wild camping is generally not allowed without the landowner’s permission, and overnight stays on roadsides, in car parks and at beauty spots are often restricted by signs, byelaws or council orders. Dartmoor has its own arrangements, so check the national park’s current guidance. Use campsites, Certificated Locations, farm stopovers or pubs that welcome vans, and follow the Countryside Code.
Read the Countryside Code. Please leave no trace, be considerate to residents, and see our Community Guidelines and Safety Tips.
