Van life guide: Wales

Van Life in Gwynedd: Best Spots, Meetups & Where to Park

Find fellow van lifers, plan meetups and convoys, or meet someone special in Gwynedd. Gwynedd takes in Eryri’s mountains, the Llŷn Peninsula and the Meirionnydd coast, and is one of the strongest Welsh-speaking areas.

The van life scene in Gwynedd

Eryri National Park covers much of the county, with Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) its highest peak. The Llŷn Peninsula and the Cardigan Bay coast offer sandy beaches and rugged headlands.

If you are staying in Gwynedd, it is simple to meet people when you plan a brew with fellow van lifers. Our guides to Eryri (Snowdonia) and the Llŷn Peninsula cover the area in more detail.

Suggest a brew somewhere public and busy, tell a friend where you are going, and keep your exact pitch to yourself until you know someone. With VanDates you choose what you are open to, whether that is friendship, convoys or romance, and you only ever show an approximate area.

Parking up and staying legal in Gwynedd

Car parks at popular Eryri trailheads, such as Pen-y-Pass, are tightly managed, with limited spaces and rules on parking and overnight stays. Plan ahead and use campsites.

In Wales, wild camping is generally not allowed without the landowner’s permission, and overnight stays on roadsides and in car parks are often restricted by signs or local rules. Use campsites, farm stopovers or pubs that welcome vans, and follow the Countryside Code, which applies in England and Wales.

Read the Countryside Code. Always leave places as you found them, be considerate to residents, and see our Community Guidelines and Safety Tips.
